MAC full coverage foundation review

Hi there beauty lovers! Today I’m excited to dive deep into a foundation that’s been generating a lot of buzz in the beauty community – the MAC Full Coverage Foundation. As someone who’s always on the hunt for the perfect base, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this and put it to the test.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been using this foundation daily in a variety of ways to really get a feel for how it performs. I’ve read through dozens of customer reviews to see what others think too. So, let’s get into all the details and I’ll share my honest thoughts!

First off, let’s talk about the claims. MAC describes this as a “Pro-preferred foundation that delivers opaque coverage with a natural matte finish.” They say it’s ideal for use in professional situations like photo shoots, as well as for anyone who wants a flawless, full coverage look. The formula is supposed to be creamy and blendable while still being long-wearing and offering some oil control. Sounds promising, right?

When you open up the compact, the first thing you’ll notice is that you get a very generous amount of product. This is a cream foundation that comes in a large pan – no dinky compacts here! There’s no sponge or mirror included, just a simple black compact. Personally, I prefer this as I like using my own brushes and sponges to apply anyway.

The texture is indeed very creamy and almost mousse-like. You only need the tiniest bit as this is seriously pigmented. I’ve found the best way is to use a synthetic buffing brush or damp beauty sponge and really work the product into the skin. Fingers could work in a pinch but it’s easier to overdo it that way. You definitely don’t want to apply this like you would a regular liquid foundation – a little goes a very long way!

In terms of coverage, “full” is an understatement. This stuff is opaque and then some. It covers redness, blemishes, hyperpigmentation – you name it. If you have flawless skin, you probably don’t need something this heavy. But if you’re looking to really even out your complexion and create a perfected canvas, this does the job very well.

Despite the intense coverage, I’m happy to report it doesn’t look or feel cakey when applied correctly. The finish is more of a natural matte – not flat but not overly dewy either. It really melds with your skin and looks seamless. You can definitely still tell you’re wearing makeup, but in a good way, if that makes sense. Your skin just looks smoother, more even and perfected.

I was impressed by how long this lasts on my combination skin. I do still need to touch up and blot in my oily areas after about 6 hours, but that’s the norm for me. It doesn’t break down or separate, even in hot humid weather. I haven’t noticed it oxidizing or changing color throughout the day either which is a plus.

One thing to note is that because this is so opaque, getting an exact shade match is important, perhaps even more so than with sheerer bases. MAC offers an extensive shade range but I still strongly suggest getting matched in-store if you can rather than guessing online. Walk over to a window and check it in natural light to be sure!

In digging through customer reviews, it seems experiences are quite polarized. Those who love it REALLY love it. The theme seems to be that for those with significant discoloration, scarring, or just prefer a very perfected look, this is a holy grail product. People rave about the coverage and how even the tiniest amount can make their skin look flawless.

On the flip side, the most common complaints appear to be from those with very dry or textured skin. Because the formula is so opaque and matte, it can cling to dry patches or flakes and exaggerate rough texture. The other main gripe was from people who found it too heavy for everyday wear.

Personally, I don’t reach for this on a daily basis – it’s a bit more than I typically need for running errands or working from home. But for special events, photos, or any time I want that extremely perfected look, this is what I use. I appreciate that I can sheer it out if I want or build it up in areas where I need more help. The versatility is a big plus for me.

As for my skin type, I’m normal to combination with some dark spots from past breakouts. I don’t have a ton of texture issues so this works well for me when applied sparingly. I do need to make sure my skin is well exfoliated and moisturized beforehand – prep is key! A hydrating primer underneath also helps it look more skin-like and glowy.

All in all, I can see why this is a pro favorite and has stood the test of time in MAC’s lineup. The coverage and long-wear are unmatched in my experience. It’s not necessarily going to be a fit for everyone’s needs or preferences, but for what it is, it delivers 100%. I’m glad I have it in my arsenal for those times when I want to pull out all the stops!

So, is the MAC Full Coverage Foundation worth the hype? If you’re looking for a reliable, budge-proof base that covers absolutely everything, I think it could be a staple for you like it is for me. Just be sure to prep your skin well, start with a tiny amount and really buff it in. With the right application, it leaves your complexion looking incredibly smooth and even – like you were born with practically poreless, perfect skin!

I also love that a little goes such a long way. I can see this compact lasting me ages, even with regular use. And for the quality, I think the price point is reasonable, especially compared to high-end cream foundations that contain far less product.

At the end of the day, foundation is such a personal thing. What works for one person may be a total miss for another. The MAC Full Coverage Foundation is definitely a polarizing product but I can confidently say I understand the cult following it has gained over the years. I’m very pleased with it and will continue to use it whenever I want that completely flawless, perfected complexion.

If you’ve been eyeing this one, I hope this extensive review was helpful! Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried it and what your thoughts are. Do you have a ride-or-die full coverage foundation? I’m always looking for recommendations to try.

Thanks for reading along and until next time, may your makeup always look fabulous and your confidence shine from within! Xoxo
